Chanteclair Farm was established by Prince Saud bin Khaled in 1995 with the purchase of a 260-acre farm in Woodford County, Kentucky. This operation was selected, developed, and managed by Ron Wallace’s Equine Farm Management, Inc. It was established to care for Prince Khaled’s broodmare band. Mares owned by Prince Khaled’s Palides Investments, N.V., Inc. were bred and cared for with the goal raising the best possible horses for sales and racing.
The broodmare band at Chanteclair, which translated from French means “singing clear,” typically averaged 16-18 mares per year. Under Prince Khaled’s ownership and Wallace’s management, the Chanteclair broodmare band produced 23% stakes horses from starters and 75% winners from starters. The farm’s overall percentages were 17% stakes horses from total foals raised at the farm. The best foal crop results for a single year yielded 88% winners and 50% stakes horses, with several other foal crops closely challenging those statistics.
Five Breeders’ Cup horses represented Chanteclair Farm since 2007, including:
- Maram, winner of the 2008 inaugural Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, she also ran sixth by only 3½ lengths to Midday in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT).
- Biondetti, who finished fourth to Uncle Mo in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I).
- Royal Delta, a multiple Eclipse Award-winning champion who was Chanteclair Farm’s most famous Breeders’ Cup winner. Royal Delta won the 2011 and 2012 runnings of the Bredders’ Cup Ladies Classic (gr.I). Royal Delta was a multiple grade I winner and Champion Mare in 2011 and 2012, with total earnings to date of over $3,763,853.
